The Mission Statement is a short document that sets out the ethos, way of working and ultimate aim of your business. Many are as short as two paragraphs. An example of a service based company would be: To aim to serve our customers quickly and efficiently, garnering only respect and loyalty. A company that is more focussed on low prices may have a Mission Statement that states: We aim to offer the lowest prices in our market place such that we gain the maximum market share without compromising the quality of our services or lose the respect of our customers.
As you can see a company’s mission statement feeds down to staff priorities, product qualitative and pricing, customer service aims, technology employed and market share being pursued. In this course we will explore major company vision statements and teach you how to define your mission statement.
Think of a company such as Ryan Air or South West Airlines which focuses on low costs and compare it with a service based company such as Rolls Royce, Marks and Spencer, SkyLofts at MGM Grand and you can see how their different Mission Statements affects the service and products they provide.
